 Phillip Robert Fleshner, MD

Director of Colorectal Surgery Research at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Dr. Fleshner holds the Shierley, Jesslyne, and Emmeline Widjaja Chair in Colorectal Surgery. Dr. Fleshner has been engaged in the study of colorectal surgery for over 25 years. He has presented at multiple invited lectures and served on multiple panels at various fora on surgical topics. He has also been invited to present state of the art lectures and serve on panels at meetings of many national and international surgical meetings, such as the American Gastroenterological Association and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. Dr. Fleshner has published over 250 peer reviewed papers in many colorectal surgical publications including the Annals of Surgery; Journal of the American College of Surgeons; Diseases of the Colon and Rectum, Gut; and the American Journal of Surgery.

 Alessandro Fichera, MD

Dr. Fichera completed his Residency at the University of Chicago, followed by a two year fellowship in laparoscopic and colorectal surgery at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York. He returned to the University of Chicago where he started and became the first Program Director of the Colon and Rectal Surgery Training Program. He moved to the University of Washington in July 2012 as chief of colorectal surgery and was appointed chief of the section of Gastrointestinal Surgery in 2014. In 2016, Dr. Fichera became the clinical director of Gastrointestinal Oncology at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. In November 2017 Dr. Fichera moved to the University of North Carolina where he became the Division Chief of Gastrointestinal Surgery. In September 2019 he became the Division Chief of Colorectal Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas and has been the Surgery Safety and Quality Officer since July 2020. In October 2024, Dr. Fichera joined the Department of Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine as the Division Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery. His clinical and research interests include colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease.
