This webinar will explore imaging in acute diverticulitis, the role of radiology in the management of complicated diverticular disease, current trends and outcomes of non-resectional management of diverticulitis, and when to consider surgical resection in acute diverticulitis. Time will be allocated at the end of the webinar for questions.

At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:

Choose the correct imaging modality in diverticulitis and correlate imaging findings to management.
Understands the outcomes of non-resectional management of acute diverticulitis.
Decide when to operate and what procedure to do in diverticulitis.

Moderators

Tracy Hull, MD, MS

Tracy Hull is a Professor of Surgery at Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. She has been a staff surgeon in the Department of Colon and Rectal Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio since 1993. She is a past American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery (ABCRS) Board Member and a past President of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS).

Emad H. Aly, MBBCH, MD, FRCS, MEd
Mr. Emad H. Aly is a Consultant Colorectal & General Surgeon in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer for the University of Aberdeen, who provides robotic, laparoscopic, and open surgery for his patients. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Society of Colon & Rectum Surgery.

Speakers

Cameron Adler, MD
Dr. Adler is an Assistant Professor of Radiology at the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine and joined the Division of Abdominal Imaging at Mayo Clinic Arizona in 2022. He completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Mayo Clinic Arizona and his fellowship in Abdominal Imaging and Intervention at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He has broad interests in Abdominal Imaging and Ultrasound, and currently serves as the Associate Program Director for the Abdominal Imaging Fellowship at Mayo Clinic Arizona.

Evangelos Messaris, MD, PhD
Dr. Messaris is chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School. His areas of clinical expertise are in management of IBD and minimally invasive surgery. His research is focused on clinical outcomes and innovative ways to perform bowel anastomoses.

Maria Zulfiqar, MBBS, MD
Dr. Zulfiqar is a Senior Associate Consultant in Abdominal Radiology at Mayo Clinic Arizona. She completed her radiology residency at St. Louis University Hospital and an abdominal imaging fellowship at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Rocco Ricciardi, MD, MPH
Dr. Ricciardi is the State Cancer Chair for Massachusetts and has served as Councilor of the Massachusetts Chapter of The American College of Surgeons, Program Chair of the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons, and on the Board of the Research Foundation of the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons. He has an interest in surgical quality and outcomes which harmonizes well with his work in the National Quality Forum. Dr. Ricciardi has authored more than 150 original publications and book chapters and continues to serve on the Editorial Board of Diseases of the Colon & Rectum. His clinical interests include surgical treatment of colorectal
malignancies, minimally invasive techniques, and diverticulitis.
