FAQs for the Nominating Committee and Nominating Process
Who are the members of the nominating committee?
In accordance with the bylaws the nominating committee consists of the three most recent past presidents who are able to serve. The chair of the committee is the longest serving past president.
What is the charge of the nominating committee?
As per the bylaws, the Nominating Committee makes nominations for the President-Elect, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Members-at-Large to succeed those Officers and Executive Council members whose terms expire at the conclusion of the next annual meeting of the voting members. The Nominating Committee reports its nominations to the voting members at least 15 days prior to the date of the annual meeting of the voting members.
How does the nominating committee develop the candidate slate?
The nominating committee carefully reviews nominations including self-nominations and nominations from ASCRS fellows to identify and put forth the best possible future leaders for our society.
Why is there no request to nominate a President-Elect?
As of 2016, the Vice President becomes the next President-Elect. The President-Elect becomes President. Prior to 2016, two Vice Presidents succeeded to President-Elect and President. Effective 2016, the nominating committee felt that our society would benefit from continuity of leadership and altered the succession.
On behalf of Patricia Roberts, MD, Chair of the ASCRS Nominating Committee,
