Dear Patients:

The mission of the American Society of Colorectal Surgery (ASCRS) is to assure high-quality patient care by advancing the science through research and education for prevention and management of disorders of the colon, rectum and anus.  In light of that mission, our number one priority is to care for you, our patients, and to provide you and your family with information and education about colorectal disease.   As a component of this partnership, it is important that you understand more about us and how we can assist in your medical care.

Colon and rectal surgeons are experts in the surgical and nonsurgical treatment of colon and rectal problems.  We have completed advanced training in the treatment of colon and rectal problems in addition to full training in general surgery.   Colon and rectal surgeons treat benign and malignant conditions, perform routine screening examinations, and surgically treat problems when necessary.

Surgeons who are board-certified in colon and rectal surgery have completed general surgical training as well as advanced training in the field of colon and rectal surgery.  To be certified they must fulfill educational as well as credentialing requirements in addition to passing both a written and oral examination.

The goal of our website is to provide you with up-to-date information regarding diseases of the colon, rectum and anus in an interactive and easy to navigate platform.  We have incorporated PDF, videos, images and more to enhance your educational experience.  On this site you will be able to view brochures explaining various colorectal conditions, how they are diagnosed as well as options for treatment.  This is present in both a short form, or an expanded version if you are looking for a more in-depth explanation.  There are links to patient advocacy organizations, inherited colorectal cancer registries as well as a link to help you find a colorectal surgeon in your area.  In addition to this, you will find various website links to ASCRS social media sites such as ASCRS Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr accounts.   These are just some of the features that are available to you.

We invite you to explore the website to see all it has to offer.  We hope that you will find this site helpful and that you will continue to use this site as your resource for the latest, up-to date information regarding colon and rectal diseases.

Sincerely,

Members of the ASCRS
