The Mentorship Program for General Surgery Residents aims to engage general surgery residents who are interested in a career in colorectal surgery and desire mentorship and networking beyond their home institution as they progress through residency, prepare for colorectal residency, and navigate the application process. The program will pair ASCRS mentors with general surgery residents for at least one year, with the expectation of four virtual one-on-one meetings.
Program Objectives
- To establish meaningful relationships between general surgery residents and ASCRS members
- To provide guidance regarding the application process for colorectal residency
- To understand career options within the field of colorectal surgery
- To promote early involvement in ASCRS
Program Expectations
The program will pair ASCRS mentors with general surgery residents for one year with the following expectations:
- The mentee and mentor will complete a Mentorship Program Agreement.
- The mentee and mentor will have at least 4 one-on-one meetings via phone, virtual platform (i.e. Zoom), or in-person.
- The mentee and mentor will complete a program assessment to provide the program planners with feedback on the program.
Who May Apply?
Any general surgery resident may apply to be a mentee. Any surgeon who is an ASCRS Member, has completed colorectal fellowship, and is not currently a colorectal residency/fellowship program director, may apply to be a mentor.
