Webinar Description and Learning Objectives:
Complex anterior fistulae in women result from a range of etiologies including obstetric or iatrogenic injury, inflammatory bowel disease, cryptoglandular abscess and malignancy. The complex workup and management of these fistulae will be discussed during this webinar including pre-operative management and operative techniques for obstetric and cryptoglandular anterior fistulae, management of fistulae associated with inflammatory bowel including pouch-vaginal fistulae, and surgical management of special conditions: recurrent fistulae, anastomotic fistulae, radiation.
 
At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
  1. Discuss the workup of patients with complex anterior fistulae.
  2. Choose from new strategies and surgical techniques presented to manage complex anterior fistulae (rectovaginal, rectoperineal and pouch-vaginal fistula).
  3. Manage special conditions: recurrent fistulae, radiation therapy, Crohn’s disease.

Bhullar,-Jasneet.jpgJasneet Bhullar, MD, MS
Dr. Jasneet Bhullar is a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery and Program Director of Colorectal Surgery Fellowship at Ascension- Michigan State University/College of Human Medicine. He has published over 50 peer reviewed manuscripts, as well as over 10 book chapters and 5 medical textbooks. He is currently the chair of the ASCRS International Committee and is the editor of the colon and rectal chapter of Gray's Anatomy.


 
Katerina Wells, MD, MPH
Dr. Katerina Wells is a staff colorectal surgeon at Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas. She is the Director of Research for the Division of Colorectal Surgery and the Associate Program Director for the Colorectal Surgery Fellowship at Baylor. She leads and participates in several institutional and collaborative trials in the areas of ERAS, IBD and Rectal Cancer. She received her general surgery training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and fellowship training at Washington University.
 

Punam Parikh, MD
Dr. Punam Parikh is Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in Houston, Texas. She has been a member of the Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology at BCM since 2022. Dr. Parikh has a diverse clinical practice that includes all aspects of colon and rectal surgery from benign disease such as IBD and diverticulitis, malignancy, pelvic floor dysfunction and anorectal disease. She has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery including robotic surgery. She also has a particular interest in medical and resident education and is a part of the laparoscopic and robotic simulation program for residents and the Academy of Clinical Teaching and Assessment (ACTA) for medical student proctorship.

Spivak,-Anna.jpgAnna Spivak, DO
Dr. Anna Spivak is a staff surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. She is a Section Chief for Pelvic Floor Surgery. Dr. Spivak specializes in disorders of the pelvic floor, including rectal prolapse, constipation, and incontinence. She works in collaboration with motility gastroenterology and urogynecology specialists. She performs combined operations with urogynecologist to address multi-compartment pelvic organ prolapse. Her professional interests include rectal prolapse recurrence and multicompartment pelvic organ prolapse management.
 

Shannon McChesney, MD
Dr. Shannon McChesney is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She received her medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago, IL, and completed her general surgery residency at Tulane University medical center in New Orleans. Thereafter she completed colorectal surgery fellowship at the University of Louisville. Dr. McChesney practices broad-based colorectal surgery both at Vanderbilt, and at the VA, where she is the Director of Colorectal Surgery and has created several collaborative colorectal programs for the Veterans.
 


Subhas,-Gokul.jpgGokul Subhas, MD
Dr. Gokul Subhas is a general and colorectal surgeon at UnityPoint St. Luke Hospital and Mercy Medical Center Hospital, Sioux City, Iowa and a Clinical Assistant Professor at Creighton University. Dr. Subhas completed medical school at Nagpur University/Government Medical College, in Nagpur, India, residency at Providence Hospital, in Southfield, MI, and colon and rectal surgery fellowship at Rutgers University, Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, in New Jersey.
