The World of Colon & Rectal Surgery

Saturday, April 30, 1:00 - 2:30 pm

CME Credit Hours: 1.5

There is increasing variability of disease presentation and treatment options for colorectal diseases around the world. This allows for differing experiences by colorectal surgeons depending on geographical area and healthcare access. These differences also have a direct impact on surgeon training, education, and wellbeing. The COVID-19 pandemic has also heavily influenced the way we practice colon and rectal surgery and has brought attention to unique challenges in our specialty with regards to education, research, and career satisfaction. This symposium will  highlight unique colorectal perspectives by leaders in our field from around the world, and to understand the challenges in our field from a global perspective.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
  1. Recognize differences in treatment options for colorectal diseases more prevalent in specific areas of the world.
  2. Identify the challenges associated with the practice of colon and rectal surgery from a global perspective.
  3. Increase awareness of the resources available around the world to increase colorectal surgeon collaboration, mentoring and well-being.
