ASA Foundation Fellowship Research Award
Supports and encourages gifted young surgeons who choose a career in investigation and academic surgery. Awardee should have a primary role in research and teaching. It is expected that the Fellow will have a faculty position at the Department of Surgery.

Eligibility: Eligible proposals must be original and clearly describe pre-clinical, translational, clinical or population-based research projects in the field of cancer prevention or early detection: If successful, research projects reduce the frequency of epithelial neoplasms: e.g., brain, head and neck, lung, breast, prostate, uterus, cervix, ovary, esophagus, stomach, colon, pancreas, liver, skin (including melanoma), HPV-related cancers or hematologic malignancies. Will not accept basic science studies or investigators who receive direct funding from the tobacco industry.

Eligibility: This award for young faculty is to assist in the establishment of investigators, basic or clinical, in digestive diseases.  Applications must be within five years of an initial faculty appointment. Dedicated research time must be significant.

Grant Name: Karen and Josef E. Fischer Traveling Fellowship for Surgeons in Academic Practice

Eligibility: Promotes interaction and learning among SSAT members in academic practices with GI surgeons in academic practices in other countries. Preference will be given to those within 10 years of initial academic appointment.

 
Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons

Eligibility:  Encourages young investigators to facilitate extramural funding-bench or clinical research in topics of endoscopy, laparoscopy, robotics, endoluminal surgery and bariatric surgery.

Eligibility: Those who are currently within their first three years of a full-time, permanent faculty appointment within a department of surgery at the assistant professor or equivalent level. Applicants should NOT be an instructor or hold another type of annual or temporary appointment.
