ASCRS is pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Regenbogen, MD as the next Editor-in-Chief of Diseases of the Colon & Rectum (DCR), the Society’s flagship peer-reviewed journal and leading publication in the field of colorectal surgery. Dr. Regenbogen is Professor of Surgery, Division of Colorectal Surgery, Department of Surgery, University of Michigan Health.
Beginning January 1, 2027, Dr. Regenbogen will continue to guide DCR into an all-digital future while upholding the journal’s legacy of scientific excellence. “I am incredibly honored by the opportunity to help shape the future of DCR, and immensely grateful to the six Editors-in-Chief who preceded me,” said Dr. Regenbogen. “Their insights, creativity, expertise, and commitment have made DCR the journal of record in colon and rectal surgery for decades. In collaboration with all of you, we will work to ensure it remains the scholarly focal point for our specialty long into the future.”
As The Journal transitions from a print publication to a fully online journal beginning in 2026, Dr. Regenbogen envisions an increasingly global and inclusive platform. “My vision for DCR is to provide a vibrant online community for surgeons and researchers to share the highest-quality clinical science, mentor the development of young investigators, and engage all colon and rectal surgeons in advancing our specialty,” he explained. “I look forward to sharing our ideas and learning from all of you in the process.”
We extend our deepest and most sincere thanks to Dr. Susan Galandiuk who will have served 10 years as DCR Editor-in-Chief when she turns over the reins. Under her exceptional leadership, the journal reached new heights in academic rigor, editorial quality, and global visibility. This includes the introduction of enhanced video content, the expansion of the journal’s digital presence through a redesigned website and the launch of the social media presences. She further strengthened the journal’s educational mission by establishing initiatives including Residents Corner, the Reviewers Guild, Journal Club, four foreign-language discussion forums, and a Chinese edition of DCR. In addition, she broadened the journal’s scope with new article categories such as Reflections, Viewpoints, Legislative updates, Practice Pearls, Committee Reports, Coding Corner, Global Health, Residents Corner, and point-counterpoint features, among others.
Through these achievements, Dr. Galandiuk has left an enduring legacy of innovation, scholarship, and global impact, for which we extend our deepest gratitude.
Join us in thanking Dr. Galandiuk for her years of hard work and congratulating Dr. Regenbogen on his appointment.
